Trends in Content Creation: The Fascination with the Natural

Content Creation

Content Creation is a fickle matter. Some swear that less is more, while others firmly believe in content overload. The truth is, there is a balance between the two, creating enough content, while making sure the content you put out there is good. However, there are also ways to optimize your content creation to help your company or personal brand flourish and grow. The best way to do this is to follow trends in content creation.

What is Content Creation and Why Does it Matter?

Content in simple terms can be images, graphics, or other forms of media that is posted or used on social media and websites. Content creation, is the process creating or making that content. This is so important because it is the way that your company or brand differentiates itself from other brands. It is the way that people recognize you, your style, and how you showcase what is important to you.

Content Creation on TikTok

Pre-pandemic, content creation was all about being flashy, colorful, and loud, however, over the past year, we have seen trends in content creation leaning towards more natural approaches. With the rise of TikTok, consumers have been in awe of raw, natural, and simple styles. People want to be able to trust you or your company. TikTok has taken this to the next level because video can often seem to be less altered than photos. Creators are posting whatever they want and are more carefree than other social media platforms. It acts as almost a judgement free zone where people can share and talk about issues that affect us all, that normally would not be given the platform they deserve. The algorithm on TikTok allows small creators to reach a large audience and virtually anything can go viral. The common theme is new, creative, and untouched videos. These are the ones that are being pushed onto the “For You Page.”

On Instagram

On Instagram, the trend I have seen be most successful is posting more raw images, lightly touched, and little to no filters applied. People love to feel as though they are seeing what is actually there. A common caption on less touched up photos has been to “make Instagram casual again.” This shows the push to be authentic and transparent. Popular creators are posting more basic images and moments in their daily life, rather than a highly touched up, embellished image. This approach to edit less and be more transparent has also allowed brands to grow a larger community.

Community & Live streaming

Community groups have helped countless businesses and influencers reach their target audience. Whether this community is on social media, a blog, websites, or more, it is important for them to feel a sense of belonging. An important aspect to this is live streaming. Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook all include the live stream feature, which has allowed people to connect with their favorite businesses and influencers on a more personal level. People love to feel connected and have thus begun to tune in to these live streams. It is another way to consume content that is raw, unfiltered, and real. Consumers are able to engage, get questions answered, and almost talk to businesses in a way that has never been seen before.

Closing

Growing on social media at its core comes down to content creation and following this new trend of being natural, unfiltered, and transparent seems to be the way to go. In order to flourish, your personal brand or company can be using natural style content, community branding, and live streaming. This will not only allow you to set yourself apart, but it will push your brand to the next level.
